Clinical Manifestations of the Hyperthyroidism


Abstract
1. In order to contribute to the diagnosis of the hyperthyroidism the frequently occuring clinical manifestations were evaluated.
2. The ratio of predominance in females was 7: 1 and 82.3% of fifty-one cases of hyperthyroidism of our whole series were distributed between twenty-one and fourty years of age.
3. The symptoms which occur most frequently (above 90%) were fatigability, nervousness and palpitation. The patients who complain of these symptoms should be carefully examined on their goiter and thyroid function. Loss of body weight is nom` contributable to the diagnosis of this disorder as it is found only in 761C of cases.
4. Physical findings: Goiter was absent in 5% of cases. All patients with unexplained tachycardia, auricular fibrillation or arhythmia should be examined carefully for underlying thyrotoxicosis. It :hould be remembered that systolic murmur at the apex could be heard due to increased blood stream. Exophthalmos is not a cardinal sign in Grave¢¥s disease as it is found merely in 20% of cases.
